West Hickman creek is an urban stream that runs through a popular park in Lexington, Kentucky. Due to increasing urban development and loss of permeable surfaces, a historic low head dam has failed and is causing severe erosion to the surrounding banks. A restoration effort is being made to remove the dam and improve the surrounding streambed and banks. Being in a public park there is plenty of trash around the site and in order to prevent the trash from becoming a part of the surrounding environment we are hosting a stream cleanup to remove as much trash from the site as possible before construction begins.
We also plan on having guest speakers from the project design team and Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government to talk more about the project and the construction process. Trash bags, buckets and gloves will be provided.
