Join the Coles County FLASH group on Tuesday, June 30, for From Farm to Faucet, a stacked field day covering soil health, cover crops, and water quality. This field day series provides the opportunity to understand how farmers and water treatment plants interact with our local waterways. During this field day we will:
- Visit a local field to learn about in-field conservation practices happening in Coles County
- Learn how in-field conservation practices affect water quality and soil health
- Tour the local water treatment plant to understand the flow of water off the fields and how water is treated for our consumption
We will kick off the morning at the City of Mattoon Water Treatment Plant with coffee and donuts, then we will drive over to Bobby Orman’s field, participate in a demo of an in-field soil health assessment with David Kleinschmidt, tour the local water treatment plant, and head back to the treatment plant for lunch.
This field day is brought to you by Farmer-Led Advances in Soil Health (FLASH) in collaboration with Coles County Soil and Water Conservation District. FLASH is a statewide initiative in Illinois where farmers are leading efforts in priority watersheds to improve soil health and protect water quality.
