The Toxic Action Lab will be tabling and providing handouts, including flyers, giveaways, and Sweetwater's Donuts and coffee at the 2026 Lake Allegan Carp Derby. The Toxic Action Lab works alongside residents to educate and empower communities facing emerging contamination and community health concerns. We have partnered with Justice for Otsego to form the Otsego Story Project (https://www.otsegostoryproject.org/) to help tell the stories of those living alongside historic and contemporary environmental contamination in Allegan County. Materials at the Toxic Action Lab table will include a compilation of safe fishing resources, multiple channels for getting in touch with our team, and instructions on how to utilize our resources for surface water sampling.

Local partners are hosting a day of fishing, fun activities, and education on aquatic invasive species! Carp fishing starts at midnight on June 13 and runs through 11 am. Fishers will catch as many carp as possible (by any legal means). Prizes will be awarded at 11:45, and will include goods from AMS Bowfishing and Mega Mouth, as well as quality local goods. All participants must register, and there is a $20 cost for everyone 16 years old and up (registration includes a t-shirt!). Food trucks and tabling activities begin at 11AM.

The goals of the Lake Allegan Carp Derby are to remove invasive common carp species from Lake Allegan, and to educate the community about aquatic invasive species and how to prevent their spread.

See you there!
