Federal, state, and local field office conservation staff, along with partner organizations, use a nine-step planning process to assist customers in developing a conservation plan.

A conservation plan identifies the customer’s conservation objectives and assesses natural resource concerns on their land, including soil, water, animals, plants, air, and energy.

In addition to the ecological aspects, the process also considers the human dimension of conservation, as studies have shown it is critical to conservation implementation. Conservation practitioners emphasize that building strong relationships are key to getting successful conservation on the ground.

Join Clare Lindahl, CEO for the Soil and Water Conservation Society, and Candace Spencer, Mediator and Program Manager with the Meridian Institute, as they share strategies for how conservation professionals can drive local engagement, increase agricultural sustainability, and improve communities. These strategies will be aligned with the nine-step conservation planning process.
