March 25, 2020

As COVID-19 has impacted all of our lives, at work and at home, we want to let you know the Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS)—your professional society—is thinking of you and your families.

While we are modifying our own daily operations to protect the health and wellbeing of our staff, our work continues—as it has for the last 75 years.

Here are some updates from SWCS:

Email us, we want to hear from you

While staff are working remotely, we will be actively checking our emails during office hours. Please find staff email addresses by clicking on individual profiles here, or email swcs@swcs.org, and your request will be forwarded to the appropriate person. Staff welcome outreach by email to schedule a call as well. Now more than ever is a great time to keep in contact.

Check out our new online platform for the Journal of Soil and Water Conservation

Be reminded that with online access to the Journal of Soil and Water Conservation you can read all articles published since 1981. Check out our brand new platform at www.jswconline.org to see current issue highlights as well as to view publish online ahead of print articles (coming in April!). If you would like to add or switch your Journal access to online, please email memberservices@swcs.org.

Let’s take our community and this anniversary celebration online…

Our 75th Anniversary is still happening this year. Even prior to current events, the Internet has redefined community, expanding our ability to connect with others, share our stories, and promote our cause. In honor of SWCS’s 75th Anniversary, we are asking conservation professionals to take to the web and increase our reach. Find ways to celebrate the 75th Anniversary online at here and at www.swcs.org/75. Watch for additional online engagement opportunities and virtual pop up events from SWCS on our website, Facebook, and Twitter.

…but let’s not cancel all the party plans just yet

Your patience with us is greatly appreciated

At SWCS, we pride ourselves in our ability to provide quick, high quality service. SWCS publications will continue to be available for order through the SWCS website, many at a 75% discount to celebrate 75 years of conservation publishing. However, while staff work remotely, shipments will be delayed by up to four weeks. E-books, including free e-books, will continue to be instantly downloadable upon order. Payments made online for new memberships and renewals will be processed immediately. If payments are sent by mail, processing will be delayed up to four weeks. Also note that all new membership packets will be delayed for up to four weeks. Please contact memberservices@swcs.org with questions or concerns related to publication orders or membership.

In closing

The current situation has caused us all a great deal of stress and concern. We encourage you to remember that our community of conservationists has been going strong for 75 years and has overcome much adversity during that time. SWCS, our members, supporters, partners and friends have proved to be resilient, and together our resiliency is magnified. Please reach out to us and lean on your professional society during this time of uncertainty. If you can be certain of one thing, it is that we are in this with you and for the long haul. Cheers to another 75 years.

Supporting our neighbors and SWCS

The needs of our neighbors and community are of the utmost priority at this time. Here is a helpful article on ways to give during this time, www.npr.org/2020/03/19/818518736/exploring-the-best-ways-to-give-to-charity-during-the-coronavirus-crisis

As SWCS’s work to foster the science and art of natural resource conservation continues, so does our need for support. Visit www.swcs.org/get-involved/give to make a donation to SWCS.
