The Hugh Hammond Bennett Award is the highest honor bestowed on an individual by the Society. It is given for exceptional service and in recognition of national and international accomplishments in the conservation of soil, water, and related natural resources.

Deadline

Application and supporting documents are due by March 29, 2019. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Nomination Form

The nomination form is to be filled out and submitted electronically. All supporting materials are to be uploaded in the online application.

Criteria

  • The award may be given to SWCS members or nonmembers.
  • No elected officer of SWCS or board member shall be eligible for the award while holding office.
  • The service and accomplishments of the nominee shall have made major and widely recognized contributions to the conservation of natural resources on national and international levels. These accomplishments shall be consistent with the goals and objectives of SWCS.

Nomination Procedure

  • Nominations may be made by SWCS officers, board members, chapters, or individual SWCS members.

Supporting Materials

The supporting material should include:

  • Three letters of support are required for this nomination. Additional letters of support will not be accepted.
  • A maximum limit of 10 pages for nomination narratives (we suggest using Times New Roman 12 point, 1.5 line spacing, and margins equal to or greater than .75 inches on all sides). 
    • The nomination narrative and/or supporting documents, should clearly document:
      • The service and accomplishments of the nominee shall have made major and widely recognized contributions to the conservation of natural resources on national and international levels. These accomplishments shall be consistent with the goals and objectives of SWCS.
      • The nominee's accomplishments relate to the SWCS mission.
      • Service to SWCS as a member or non-member.
      • Professional achievements.
      • Service to other professional organizations.
      • Use this nomination narrative in place of a CV or resume.
  • Supporting materials are to be uploaded in the application.

Selection

  • The Awards Committee will evaluate and rank all nominations. Recommendations will be presented to the Board of Directors for final approval.
  • The award will be presented at the annual meeting or elsewhere as designated by the Board. The recipient may be asked to deliver a short speech at the Awards Luncheon at the Annual Conference.
  • The award shall be given to no more than one individual annually. No award shall be made if a suitable candidate is not nominated or if the SWCS Board of Directors decides there are significant reasons for not conferring the award.
