- Why is SWCS partnering with Taylor & Francis to publish the journal?
-
- SWCS has proudly self-published the Journal of Soil and Water Conservation for nearly 80 years. In recent years, however, we have faced significant challenges, including rising production expenses, constrained resources for marketing and distribution, and a limited ability to reach a wider audience. By partnering with Taylor & Francis, SWCS aims to improve the journal's accessibility, expand its readership, and continue to ensure publication excellence and long-term sustainability.
- We are excited to benefit from Taylor & Francis’s expertise, gained from partnerships with more than 700 scholarly societies and 2,700 journals. Moving forward, they will manage the production, marketing, and distribution of the journal. In addition to making JSWC accessible in more libraries and research institutions around the world, JSWC’s research will be highlighted with content from other conservation journals, with the aim of finding new readers and expanding our pool of potential contributors.
- Research editors J. Gordon Arbuckle, Jr. (Iowa State University) and Gretchen Sassenrath (Kansas State University) along with SWCS staff will provide the same high-quality, peer-reviewed content, extensive author engagement, and production oversight that has made JSWC a leading journal in the soil and water conservation field.
- How do I benefit from the partnership with Taylor & Francis?
-
- Learn from broader scholarship: SWCS members can continue reading up on conservation research through complimentary online access to the journal Society & Natural Resources. In addition, in expanding the journal’s digital presence, JSWC is now part of Taylor & Francis’s traditional and Read and Publish subscription models, topical collections, and subject-specific archives marketed to its extensive networks with libraries and research institutions around the world, offering authors wider readership and inviting more scholarship.
- Use accessible design and non-text formats: The new layout for articles follows Taylor & Francis’s responsive and accessible design across devices, and includes assistive technology, such as “ReadSpeaker," which reads articles aloud to subscribers. In addition, supporting materials can be added in non-text formats, such as video, audio files, datasets, and full-color images.
- Find support for writing and sharing research: Taylor & Francis provides training materials on academic writing, plain language summaries, funder policies, and publication ethics as well as SWCS-branded communications services for authors to easily share their work with their networks.
Institutional and Nonmember Subscribers
- I am not a SWCS member. What is changing about my journal subscription?
-
- New Contact: Print and online subscriptions are now managed by Taylor & Francis. If you are already a subscriber, you do not need to take any action. When your current subscription expires, Taylor & Francis will contact you with information about your renewal. Questions about renewals, new subscriptions, and updates to your account should be sent to Taylor & Francis at subscriptions@tandf.co.uk.
- New Website and New Look: The journal is now hosted on Taylor & Francis’s website; you may want to bookmark the new journal address: www.tandfonline.com/uswc. Both the journal’s website and the journal’s print edition will look different as Taylor & Francis take over production. However, you’ll find the same quality, peer-reviewed research, overseen by JSWC’s research editors and editorial board and SWCS staff.
