Effective Cover Cropping in the Midwest
Effective Cover Cropping in the Midwest is targeted to farmers and cover crop service providers. This meeting will provide a forum for farmers to exchange information, discuss opportunities for collaboration, and learn about new and successful practices related to cover crops. Case study presentations will identify and discuss strengths and pitfalls of real applications. Specific tracks will be held for no-till, tillage, and organic applications.
Speakers will include farmers, crop consultants, and university researchers who have extensive experience in cover crop management. General sessions, three concurrent session and a roundtable session will be included. The goal of the conference is to get farmers together to learn how to effectively manage cover crops in a way that enhances soil quality, keeps nutrients in the fields, and increases the bottom line.
Opening Session Speaker: Steve Groff, Cedar Meadow Farm
Closing Session Speaker: Ken Ferrie, Farm Journal Field Agronomist
The final door prize to be given away at the conference will be a “JM ATV mini floater sprayer” for use in managing cover crops. Farmers utilizing cover crops know how important it is to kill the cover crop in a timely fashion. However, if the field is too wet, most self‐propelled sprayers are too heavy and spraying must be delayed. Farmers have found that a high floatation ATV sprayer with a 60’ boom allows them to get across fields regardless of moisture content and in a timely manner.
The drawing for the sprayer will be at 4:00 p.m. on December 8, 2011. Only registered attendees are eligible to win door prizes and attendees must be present to win. More information on the sprayer and JM Innovations is online at www.jminnovations.com
