Please join the launch event on WednesdayMay 24 from 12:30PM – 2:00PM for the new report:

Water Quality Targeting Success Stories: Achieving Cleaner Water Through Farm Conservation Watershed Projects

For more information about the report and to register, please click here. Note: the in-person event includes lunch, served at noon, while the webinar and speaker remarks will begin at 12:30 pm.

The joint AFT-WRI report features six case studies of projects that measured in-stream or tile drain water quality improvements resulting from the adoption of farm conservation practices by multiple farmers and landowners in each project watershed.

Successful projects were found in California, Oklahoma, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Indiana. Projects focused on reducing nutrients, sediment, pesticides, or pathogens in agriculturally-influenced watersheds. Other measured outcomes include modeled environmental outcomes, social outcomes and economic outcomes. The report details how the projects achieved their results and explores how federal conservation programs—such as the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP), among others—can be improved to replicate this success.

 Speakers for the event include:

  • Betsy Otto – Global Water Program Director, World Resources Institute
  • Dr. Michelle Perez – Senior Policy Specialist, American Farmland Trust
  • Steve Richter – Director of Conservation Programs, The Nature Conservancy-Wisconsin (featured project leader)

  • John Larson – Executive Director of Programs, American Farmland Trust
  • Dave White – Co-founder of 9b Consulting and former Chief of USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (2009-12)
