Oklahoma Chapter Strategic Plan
Vision Statement: To promote a Society the science and art of natural resource conservation and environmental management through a combination of research, education and advocacy.
Objectives:
- Maintain an effective level of representation in policy circles on conservation issues.
- Provide a professional development program which enhances the knowledge and resources of its members
- Sustain public education through sponsorship and event planning with scholarship assistance given to student chapter members
- Actively pursue new membership opportunities and uphold current membership by providing a service which can be seen as a benefit to their careers and as human beings.
- Establish working relationships with other chapters and with international headquarters
- Maintain an effective level of representation in policy circles on conservation issues.
a) Involve the chapter on issues of interest and importance to the chapter and the Society (where applicable).
b) Develop a strategy for voicing opinions to public and policymakers.
i. Elect one representative who speaks for the chapter as a whole
ii. Base arguments on factual evidence
iii. Develop a plan of attack to achieve your purpose
c) Develop good relationships which legislators as well as with the local media
- Provide a professional development program which enhances the knowledge and resources of its members
a) Organize workshops and meetings to further develop the knowledge base and expertise of members
b) Provide opportunities and encourage certification in areas of conservational and environmental interest
- Sustain public education through sponsorship and event planning with scholarship assistance given to student chapter members
a) Education to the public should be considered of high importance
b) Fundraising efforts should be used to either enhance the chapters educational effectiveness through programs or to supply scholarship funding to college students
c) Sponsor conservation and environmentally oriented events to raise awareness and provide the possibility of fundraising at the event
- Actively pursue new membership opportunities and uphold current membership
a) Explore new avenues of exposure to seek out new members
b) Provide a service to potential members which can be seen as a benefit to their careers and as human beings
c) Encourage member participation in events or activities to help in the retention of membership
- Establish working relationships with other chapters and with international headquarters
a) See neighboring chapters as an asset to your own chapter
b) Allow resources, workshops, meetings to be shared among adjoining chapters to create a reciprocal relationship
c) Create uniform visions and goals parallel with the international headquarters to allow for an consistent message the public can become familiar with
