The Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS) is a nonprofit scientific and educational organization¾founded in 1943¾that serves as an advocate for conservation professionals and for science-based conservation practice, programs, and policy.
SWCS chapters throughout the United States and Canada conduct a variety of activities at local, state, and provincial levels and on University campuses. These 75 Chapters represent the grassroots element of the organization. Each chapter elects its own officers, organizes conservation forums, and formulates local recommendations on resource conservation and environmental management issues.
The Oklahoma Chapter is one of the Southwest’s most active chapters. We are highly involved in several annual activities through sponsorship, including the Oklahoma State Envirothon and the National Land Judging Competition. As the recipients of numerous achievement awards in the past, the Oklahoma Chapter is continuing its exceptional service to the Society and its members by wining the 2004 Outstanding Chapter Award and the 2004 Sustained Performance Award. The Oklahoma Chapter is dedicated to ensuring the best interests of its members and the Society are met by electing confident and capable officers and Committee persons as well as maintaining a close relationship with the international headquarters. The future of the Oklahoma Chapter holds exiting new challenges for those already involved and provides a superb opportunity for new member involvement.
