Chapter Reports & Awards

Annual Chapter Activity Report

Each chapter must complete an Annual Chapter Activity Report. The information provided is used to ensure that chapters are current and are meeting required obligations. It is also used to submit charitable applications.

Information regarding 2017 Chapter Activity Reports will be sent to chapter presidents in January of 2018, and reports will be due in March.

Chapter Awards

Our new, streamlined chapter awards nominations form is now combined with the chapter activity reports. This allows a chapter to apply for an award, while filling out the mandatory chapter activity report.

Summary of Chapter Awards

Chapter Achievement Award

The SWCS Chapter Achievement Award recognizes up to five chapters for significant achievement through a single activity conducted during the year. No chapter can be recognized more than once during a 10-year period for the same basic activity.

Criteria:
  • Purpose of activity
  • Significance of the activity
  • Goal the chapter hoped to achieve and results
  • Media coverage
  • Participation by SWCS members and nonmembers

Chapter Sustained Performance Award Form

The Sustained Performance Award recognizes one chapter for continuing excellence and overall programming over a period of more than two years.

The following two criteria must be met to quality:

  • No chapter can be recognized for this award more than once during a 5-year period.
  • A chapter must have submitted an annual activity report for the previous year to be considered for this award.

Outstanding Chapter Award

The Outstanding Chapter Award recognizes one chapter from each region for its success in carrying out its overall program during the past year.

To be considered, chapters must have the following:

  • an annual and/or strategic plan
  • at least one newsletter distributed in the past year
  • at least one technical or professional meeting in the past year

Plus, at least one of the following:

  • education activity
  • community service
  • communication of a position to media or legislative body
  • development of technical manual or other publication

If these minimum criteria are met, nominees will be ranked based on the changes in membership; assistance to other chapters or regional leadership; and accomplishment of special projects that highlight or address emerging issues in conservation policy, technology, and science.  These activities will be ranked as follows:

  • Membership (0 to 5 points): 0 for loss of membership; 3 for maintaining; and 5 for increase
  • Assisted other chapters or regional leadership (0 to 3 points)
  • Special projects (0 to 5 points): 1-2 points will be given for each instance occurring in past year.  Examples include workshops, technical training, or publications that highlight cutting edge issues in conservation policy, technology, and science.

Professional Development Chapter Award

The Professional Development Award recognizes two chapters (determined by membership size) for their efforts in conducting and/or sponsoring professional development programs during the past year. The awards will be based on quality of the program/event rather than on quantity. The program, activities, or curriculum should be focused on SWCS chapter members as organizers and/or as participants. One award will be selected from those chapters which have fewer than 75 members, and one award will be selected for those chapters who have over 75 members. The same criteria will be used for both awards.
