Implications of Water Shortages

Water shortages have long been recognized as a significant problem in the arid West.  More recently, however, concerns have been identified in other areas of the United States including Florida, Kentucky, Arkansas, New England, the Great Lakes region, and the Southern Plains (Ogallala Aquifer).  Increasing population coupled with natural occurrences such as drought will place additional stresses on municipal, industrial, agricultural, environmental, and other water uses.  The objectives of this session are to increase awareness regarding implications of water shortages on water users and identify strategies to address these implications.

Moderator:
Marc Safley, USDA-NRCS Drought Coordinator and National Agricultural Ecologist

Panelists:

  • Ane Deister, El Dorado Irrigation District

  • Wendy Holm, The Holm Team

  • Phil Pasteris, USDA-NRCS
